This is a lesson our nation's thumbed its nose at for years. Can't afford something? Just put it on credit. Don't want to work? Lie and take the day off. Want that extra cheescake? Hey, we now have vanity sizing.
It seems that we no longer understand that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It's as if, in our arrogance and pride, we think we can defy the laws of physics.
Let me clue you in, people. We can't.
So for my friends that have had to learn this lesson the hard way, take heart. If you've learned, then it was worth it.
And if we all remember these, life'll be a heck of a lot easier.
- There is no short cut around hard work.
- If you don't do what you say, people will not believe you.
- You cannot spend more than you make.
- And you cannot ignore problems ... they only get worse.
- TV doesn't help. It only wastes your precious time.
This good news, if there is any, is that the law of natural consequences can work in your favor as well.
If I save more than I spend, I have money in the bank.
If I stay focused and do my best, I will succeed.
If I continue to hone my craft, even on the days I don't feel like it, I'll be a better writer.
I guess it all depends on how you look at things. Then again, I guess that law applies to everything in life, doesn't it?
Oh so true! If only we chose to live this way 100% of the time. :-/ I know for me, when I mess up, I think, "It'll be okay for now. I'll fix it later." When "later" rolls around, I want to kick myself for not taking care of it when I had the chance. Sometimes we just need to learn the hard way. That way, hopefully, the lesson sticks with us.

Some of the best lessons are always the hardest to listen to and apply. I seem to get stuck on the apply part, but like Hope, I'm working on getting better at the now vs later.
