3 Gates of the Dead ... Amazing Scary as S*%# Read!

Blurb:

Sometimes, the most evil things come from the most holy…

Conflicted with his faith in God and the hypocrisy of the church, Aidan Schaeffer, a young assistant pastor, is in a constant state of spiritual turmoil. When Aidan learns that his ex-fiancĂ©e is the first victim in a string of ritualistic killings, he finds himself in the middle of an even deeper fight. Tormented by demonic threats and haunted by spirits, Aidan throws himself into investigating Amanda’s death; all the while supernatural forces have begun to attack the people around him. The more questions he asks, the more he is drawn into the world of a mysterious Anglican priest, a paranormal investigation group and a rogue female detective investigating the murders. As the gruesome rituals escalate, ancient hidden secrets and an evil long buried threaten to rip Aidan’s world apart.

My Thoughts:
3 Gates of the Dead is on my best reads of 2013 list. The plot is very well constructed, the characters are distinct, and the writing is amazing.

The book centers around Aiden Schaeffer, an assistant pastor whose ex-fiancee has been murdered in a ritualistic way. While this is one of the scariest books I've read in a while, I think of it more as a fantastic dark paranormal than straight horror. But no matter what the genre, know that if you read it at night you'll be sleeping with the lights on!

Hey, and don't forget to sign up for a signed copy of the book! Rafflecopter's below. :-)

If you're a filmmaker, you'd be freaking insane not to check this out!

No Way Out --- Thriller of the Year

Sorry this is a little late. My computer has been on the fritz thanks to a ton a Malware/Spyware/Virus nonsense. Hackers are the blight of our society, aren't they?

Book Blurb:

When a powerful firebomb destroys part of an art gallery in an exclusive London district, FBI Profiler Karen Vail is dispatched to England to work with Scotland Yard. But Vail soon discovers that at the heart of the bombing lies a 440-year-old manuscript that holds clues to England's past—with content is so explosive that a group of political radicals is bent on destroying it at all costs.

The trail leads Vail to a notorious fugitive who appears to be planning a major attack on London and the United States. Soon she finds herself on the run from the British security service, Scotland Yard and a group of internationally trained assassins—all determined to silence her…all tightening the net to ensure that she’s got no way out.

National Bestselling author Alan Jacobson has crafted an intelligent, twisting thriller destined to be talked about long after the last page is turned.

My Thoughts About the Book:

All right. I'll admit it. I have a little writer crush on this author. If you search his name at all you'll know he works like a house elf to get his stories right. Too, the man cranks out great books like rabbits do baby bunnies. Readers think a book a year is nothing, but if you've ever written so much as a poem you know how completely time consuming and hard it is to do. Too, everything of his I've read is just great writing.

Must suck to be so talented.

I read this one out of order, and I'm kind of sad I did. You know how much I love series, and so I'd have really liked to start and the beginning and work my way forward. But as with all great writing, you can read these out of order and still be sucked into the story line. Still, I'd recommend starting with the first so you can develop a strong kinship with the characters.

Karen Vail is a true warrior type girl. She's tough and rugged, but still you can see her heart. Jacobson's words really  brings the story and the setting to life. Much like JR Ward, Jacobson has a way with developing his characters, which really adds depth to the reading. Love, love, love it when that happens!

If you are an action/adventure junkie this is a great read. As with most books I love, I finished the thing in one night. Now I'm going back and reading the series from the beginning.

About Alan Jacobson:
Alan Jacobson’s literary career has been marked by a number of events, but none was more significant than an accidental meeting 20 years ago while researching his first novel, "False Accusations," at the California Department of Justice's crime lab. Jacobson struck up a conversation with FBI agent Mark Safarik, a profiler at the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit and Agent Safarik subsequently invited Jacobson out to Quantico to tour the Academy.

With the FBI’s help, Jacobson immersed himself in the world of serial killers, rapists, bombers and arsonists. Over the course of seven years, Jacobson made numerous trips to the BAU, had countless hours of conversations with Agent Safarik and his partner, attended FBI training courses, shot submachine guns with the Academy’s head firearms instructor, edited four published FBI research papers on serial offenders and parsed serial killer interviews with Agent Safarik.

Jacobson was finally ready to write his third novel, the first featuring FBI Profiler Karen Vail—the national bestseller, "The 7th Victim." Oozing sharp wit and sarcasm, Vail means well but is human and makes mistakes. The head of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers association described Karen Vail as “a cop you'd go through a door with"—a phrase used to describe a colleague with whom officers trust their lives when bullets are flying.

“No Way Out” is the 5th Karen Vail FBI Profiler novel, which takes place after a terrorist attack in England. Vail journeys overseas, unearths a 440 year-old manuscript, a terrorist plot, and a cadre of assassins who would like nothing more than to make Vail ancient history.

Fallenmore Blog Tour and Giveaway

I'm so excited to be a part of fellow author Lucy Swing's Fallenmore blog tour.

Don't forget to enter for a chance to win a signed copy of the series, and thanks, Lucy, for sharing with us your thoughts on writing and music!

Some like to write in silence, others with music in the background. I am a little bit of both. Sometimes I find it that when I have the music on I am not able to concentrate and once I turn it off, voila! I am a writing machine. Same thing happens the other way around.

For today’s guest post I thought I’d make the playlist with the most popular songs that I played while I wrote Fallenmore. I tried and I tried to get the playlist embedded so you could listen to all the songs right here, right now, but I have failed. So, I have written all of the artist’s and songs and at the bottom you will find a link to the actual playlist, in case you want to check it out for yourself.

1. 30 Seconds to Mars – The Kill

2. Within Temptation – Angels

3. Within Temptation – Our Farewell

4. Rob Zombie – Superbeast

5. Evanescence – My heart is broken

6. Aerosmith – Angel

7. Skillet – The last night
